So. Here we are, a little bit more than a year later. Been longer than I thought, but then again, sometimes I thought that last year would never end.
Across 2018 my life’s major focus has been on a variety of treatments for mental health. While I’m still receiving care, coping with the acute difficulties I was experiencing is no longer the axis my life turns around. I’m in a place I can put effort towards refocusing on my writing life and career. To make my personal identity as ‘writer’ a little more central than ‘person recovering from depression, etc.’
I’m sure I’ll talk more about my adventures with mental health care at some point, but to put things briefly, having nightmares once in three months rather than three times a week is a really nice place to be.
My current plan is to post here with updates as I come up with them, and over the next couple of months find out what kind of working pace feels both comfortable and sustainable for me right now. This does mean the Patreon will be staying paused awhile longer (so your payments still won’t be collected), but also means more posts made free for all passers by while I work my situation out. Expect to be polled and asked your opinion on the subject of what I should be doing with the Patreon, too.
Right now my goal is to get the dust off my fingers and rust off my writing skills until I feel confident in them. With that in mind, I am working on a cyberpunk story from the depths of my teenage notebooks. It needs a new working title, but expect a corporatocracy, the building of the first orbital elevator, near full-body prosthetics, brain implants, and an inadvisable amount of global warming.
In many ways the ideas and concepts from these old notebooks got remixed to heck and back in order to provide the stories set in San Iadras, and now I get the chance to remix them all over again.
I look forward to seeing what the results are, and to getting the chance to share them with you.
