So. You all know I live in London, right? And you’ve all heard of Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, AKA our prime minister, AKA Tory Trump?
It was funny, and then it was alarming. Then Hong Kong’s protests got crazy, then people were marching to try and stop a ‘coup’ – in that Johnson’s government is attempting to play some very nasty games with the British Parliament to circumvent democratic processes.
That’s been distracting me a bunch this past month. It has been a very distracted month, overall.
Which leads into one of these intriguing recovering-from-depression problems one wouldn’t ordinarily consider. It’s much easier for enjoyable things to distract me, now, and the learned self-control I used to have for putting fun aside for awhile to work has atrophied. To make an embarrassing confession, if I pick up a book and I enjoy reading it, putting it down and doing something else with my day (or, for brick-sized books, next few days) becomes almost impossible.
So I’m enjoying my life, other than the bits where I notice the news, but I’m not getting as much done as I’d like to. The time management helps for when I actually get things organized to spend time doing something, I just need to put more time into it.
Something else I will admit is that as the sensation that I’m not doing enough with my writing career grows, the self-control to put fun stuff aside and work instead shrinks further. Which is a problem to find a solution for. A much nicer problem than many others I’ve had to face down, but still a problem.
